I get an error message saying: "Can't set up a valid OpenGL canvas.."

This error message may appear when running applications on Solaris/Sparc machines with display to Multiple-Screen PC/Linux machines with NVidia graphics cards. The problem is caused by NVidia's driver on the Linux-machine which claims to support a technology called Xinerama, but it is not properly implemented.

The problem can be solved by adding the line:

Option "NoTwinViewXineramaInfo" "on"

to the "Device" section of your XF86Config file. A side effect of this configuration change is that maximization of windows will behave differently - the window will maximize over all screens instead of over the current screen.

The fix works with version 6629 of the driver and possibly with others. The problem has been reported to NVidia.
