Forward pseudo-well modeling and probabilistic inversion package

SynthRock is a forward pseudo-well modeling and probabilistic inversion package to achieve qualitative and quantitative seismic interpretation. It supports wedge models, stochastic models, pre- and post-stack synthetic seismograms and cross-matching (HitCube) inversion.

Integrating Rock Physics, Geology & Seismic

Forward modeling of synthetic seismic data plays a key role in understanding the seismic response of a target interval. A thorough understanding of the response enables interpreters to separate true hydrocarbon anomalies from false positives and to make more accurate reservoir predictions. In a forward model, geologic information and synthetic seismic data is integrated through a rock physics model.

Sophisticated workflows in which model parameters are varied stochastically can be run to create a data base of pseudo-wells, representative of the expected geologic and seismic variations at target level. Such models are then used to predict rock properties with uncertainties from pre- and post-stack seismic volumes.

SynthRock supports two modules for forward modeling: the Profile module and the Stochastic module. The Profile module is used for the creation of cross-sections from existing wells with manual updates of model parameters. This module is used among others in sensitivity analysis (wedge models) and in the validation of stacked output panels generated with the CCB Fluid Contact Finder.

The Stochastic module is used for creating input models in a HitCube inversion work flow. Typically, thousands of pseudo-wells, 1D geologic models without spatial information, are generated in a simulator that combines geologic reasoning with Monte Carlo statistics.

Both modules can use OpendTect's extensive rock-physics library, Gassmann fluid substitution, and statistical analysis through OpendTect's cross-plot tool to build realistic models.

Pre- and post-stack synthetic seismograms are generated with a sophisticated, ray-trace based, synthetics generating algorithm that supports generation of: PP, PS; near, mid, far, full & angle stacks. Optionally multiples can be generated as well.

In the HitCube analysis model synthetics are cross-matched against measured seismic responses to generate rock-property probability volumes.
