New Features

OpendTect 4.0 Triple Licensing Scheme: GPL , Commercial , Academic
GNU GPL

OpendTect is released under a triple licensing scheme: 1) GPL (open source), 2) commercial (allows access to the commercial plugins) and 3) academic (free plugins for research only).

The GPL license covers OpendTect. The software is released with its source code (C++), is not protected by a license manager, and can be used by anyone, including for commercial purposes, as long as the user accepts to adhere to the GNU/GPL rules.

OpendTect 4.0: Well-Tie
Well-Tie

The synthetic to seismic well-tie module enables the interpreter to tie wells to seismic.

-Synthetic seismogram
-Check-shot correction
-Additional stretch & squeeze
-Updated depth/time model
-Statistical wavelet extraction
-Deterministic wavelet extraction
OpendTect 4.0: New Well Display
New Well Display

Logs can now be displayed as a single line, a single fill color, or filled with a color-bar. Two logs can be displayed on each side of the well, using the line display for one log and filling it with the values of another log using the color-bar display.
The preferred display settings can be saved as default and applied to all wells.

OpendTect 4.0: Time to Depth conversion
Time to Depth conversion

Use an existing velocity model or create a new one with the new Volume Builder.

Supports: on-the-fly TD conversion of display elements and batch processing of volumes.

OpendTect 4.0: Gridding
Gridding

More and improved gridding algorithms to fill holes and create 3D horizons from 2D horizons.

Also supported: conversion of 3D horizons to 2D horizons (needed for the new multi-2D SSIS workflow).

OpendTect 4.0: Color Blending
Color Blending

Color Blending enables the simultaneous display of multiple attributes.

OpendTect 4.0: Horizon Tracking
Horizon Tracking

The updated horizon tracker has more user-friendly editing capabilities and is more robust due to the new step-wise tracker functionality.

OpendTect 4.0: Seg-Wizard
SEG-Wizard

The SEG-Y wizard facilitates data loading. It features a quick pre-scan and seismic preview options

OpendTect 4.0: Pre-Load Seismic
Pre-Load Seismic

Use the available memory installed: Pre-load 2D, 3D, pre-stack seismic data for quicker access.

OpendTect 4.0: Prestack AVO
Prestack AVO

Calculate pre-stack AVO attributes: gradient, intercept, and derivatives from pre-stack gathers.

Optionally pre-process gathers with mute, AGC, vertical stack and velocity correction.

OpendTect 4.0: Generic Removal Tool
Generic Removal Tool

Simply draw a polygon to delete part of a pick-set or horizon.

OpendTect 4.0: Improved Crossplots
Improved Crossplots

Cross-plot functionality has enhanced editing options. Selected cross-plot points can be displayed in the 3D scene.

OpendTect 4.0: Measurement Tool
Measurement Tool

Measures the distance in a 3D scene.

Calculate volumes below horizon inside a polygon

OpendTect 4.0: Default Display Settings
Default Display Settings

The user can save the color bar and clipping for each stored seismic volume. Each time it is loaded it is displayed with the preferred settings without need for additional tweaking.
Furthermore, a default seismic volume, horizon, etc can be set for quick display purposes.

OpendTect 4.0: Histograms and Spectra
Histograms and Spectra

Display Histograms or Amplitude spectra of display elements.

This feature can also be used to edit clipping ranges of color-bars.

OpendTect 4.0: Scene Elements
Scene Elements

The active color-bar and north arrow can be included in the scene for snapshots.
