Dear OpendTect users,
Keeping up the spirit of agile development we announce the release of
our latest development version OpendTect 4.3.1a. With it we are also
introducing the new OpendTect Installation Manager which is a one-stop
solution for installation/update of OpendTect and its plugins. It
completely changes the way you download and install OpendTect. Here is
what you need to get OpendTect 4.3.1a running on your system:
INSTALLATION:
-- Download and run the Installation Manager available at our download
center http://www.opendtect.org/index.php/download-center.html. Please
note that you need to have an active internet connection to run the
Installation Manager.
-- In the Installation Manager window, you need to select a suitable
'Installation base directory'. OpendTect is going to be installed as
different version names (viz. 4.3.1, 4.4.0 etc) under this base
directory. On Windows C:\Program Files\OpendTect can be a convenient
choice. On Linux you may want something like /data/apps/OpendTect.
Clicking on 'Proceed'.will get you to the 'Package Selection' window.
-- You can either choose a 'typical' installation or decide to 'pick'
the packages by yourself. 'Proceed' will then get you to the 'OpendTect
Package Manager'.
-- On the left hand side you will find a list of all the available
packages. You can simply select the packages you want to install and
'Proceed'. The selected packages will be downloaded and installed. You
will get a confirmation message after the installation is complete.
-- On Windows you will get OpendTect in the start menu and as a Desktop
icon which you can use to run the application.
-- On Linux you need to run start_dtect as before but now is located at
<base dir>/4.3.1/start_dtect. (e.g. /data/apps/OpendTect/4.3.1/start_dtect).
UPDATE:
-- For updates you can use the same Installation Manager or the one from
Utilities -> Installation menu in the OpendTect main window. For Linux
users we also have an auto-update feature which will check for updates
at start-up and install the updates. To set the behavior, please select
a convenient 'Auto-update policy' for you in the Utilities
->Installation menu.
Note: As of now only Windows and Linux packages are available. Mac
packages will follow shortly.
Have a nice weekend.
Best regards,
Raman
