Ranojay,
Not sure how much of the linux subsystem is need to make the remote
machine work and I am all in favour of moving away from rsh to mpi etc.
But Microsoft have made some interoperability with Linux/Unix and have
included a set of Unix utilities in vista and windows 7.

These however have to be downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=

This msdn blog describes more about the SUA and installing it
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/hpctrekker/archive/2009/09/28/installing-sua-a-w
alk-through.aspx

And this is a Microsoft sponsored community all about ms
interoperability

Cheers
Charles

Subject: [OpendTect_Users] Multi-Machine Processing not available for
Windows

Hi All,

This post is to respond to couple of support questions recently
regarding Multi-Machine Processing on Windows, which might be of
interest to other users as well.

Multi-Machine Processing between Windows machines is unfortunately not
available in OpendTect 4.0. The implemented way of communication is
based on rsh, and this command doesn't work for Vista and 7.
Since the new version doesn't use Cygwin any more, it won't be possible
to use Cygwin methods either.

We're currently re-developing the Multi-Machine Processing module in
order to make it fully cross platform.

Regards
Ranojay
