[OpendTect_Users] SEG-Y tools: conclusions

Hi all,

OpendTect supports loading from 'reasonable' SEG-Y files. If you have
un-reasonable files, or want to do 'processing' on them before loading,
you should use a tool.

SeiSee is recommended by almost everybody as a great free tool. Here's a
quote from Tacjana Litwinska-Kemperink (inserted because it's nice and
positive):
"I would like to recommend the versatile SeiSee software
as a SEGY viewer. A lot of thanks to Alexey Bogdanov!"

Witold Seweryn has made a toolkit that is not 100% free, but seems to
have the advantage in some specific situations (like coordinate
insertion, conversion), and seems to be better in its batch processing
capabilities.

Other tools like SU and Madagascar can be really helpful, too. And with
the help of Windows- and Linux- cross-platform runners it seems that
every tool can be used on every major platform nowadays.

Last note from Graham Bowyer says about SeiSee (contrary to Hamish' note):
"It is possible to define header entries beyond byte 180:
* Select 'Trace Headers' tab
* Click 'Add New Item' icon"
But it seems Hamish' remark about binary header values after byte 60 is
still valid. In general it's a pity SeiSee doesn't really support Rev.1
as such.
