Thank you Fred.

Dear all,

Please find below Prof. Fred Aminzadeh's comment on AQF with a link to an
interesting presentation on how AQF and AvO attributes can be combined by
neural networks to high-grade gas prospects.

Best regards,

Paul.

AQF is defined as the area of the power spectrum beyond the dominant
frequency.. While different absorption related attributes gives an
indication of high frequency loss AQF turns out to be less sensitive to
noise. As an example, please see: http://gen.usc.edu/assets/002/79915.pdf**

Hello Shantanu,****

** **

Thanks for your question.****

** **

Absorption Quality Factor returns the area beyond the dominant frequency
weighted by frequency. The attribute shows how fast high frequencies are
absorbed. The attribute is especially useful in detecting hydrocarbon
anomalies (anomalous behavior shows up below the hydrocarbon-bearing zone).
Normalization is used to enable comparison of absorption effects
independent of seismic energy levels.****

** **

Please note that all open source attributes are described in Appendix A of
the OpendTect v4.6 user documentation. For dip-steered attributes
(curvature, dip-steered similarity etc), please see the dGB plugins user
doc. To see what is written about Absorption Quality Factor (described
under Frequency attributes), please see:
http://opendtect.org/rel/doc/User/base/appendix_frequency.htm. ****

** **

Also, I would like mention the OpendTect Attribute Matrix here as a good
source for attributes and their applications:
https://opendtect.org/opendtect_attributes_matrix/ .****

** **

I hope this helps. ****

Best regards,****

I am working on some frequency attributes available on OD platform. Need
some detailed information on "absorption quality factor" attribute. Looking
for some of the details mentioned below.

1. Mathematical basis of this attribute (whether it is represents Q factor
or absorption)
2. Difference between normalized and without normalized attribute. Which
one is appropriate for what type of environment.

Thanks
